Mr Van is a trading style of Kompare Limited. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal data and handling it with transparency, fairness and care.

We follow the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Our role is to help arrange insurance products through trusted Brokers, and this sometimes involves processing your personal information.

What information we collect and why

If you're using our service, we collect information to help match you with suitable insurance options. This is known as fact-finding in the financial services industry, and helps us understand your needs.

We collect information through:

  • Online forms
  • Phone calls
  • Emails or post

The types of data we collect may include:

  • Contact details (name, phone, email, etc.)
  • Occupation and age
  • Insurance claim history
  • Vehicle or insurance-specific details
  • Sensitive data such as medical or criminal information, if necessary for a quote

Providing your details on our site will be taken as a clear request for us to contact you for the stated purpose.

If we receive your details from a lead generator

Sometimes we receive your contact information from a third-party lead generator. In these cases, you should have already agreed to this, and been told that a company like us may be in touch.

Information from other sources

We may also use publicly available information to verify your identity or the details you've provided.

Who we share your information with

We'll only share your data with Brokers when you ask for a quote.

We may also share details with regulators or fraud prevention agencies when legally required.

We do not share your data for marketing purposes with third parties.

How we use your information

We only use your information in ways you'd reasonably expect. We will:

  • Search the market to match you with a suitable Broker
  • Provide personalised insurance quotes
  • Stay in touch while you review your quotes
  • Contact you near your renewal date to help reassess your needs
  • Update your records when your circumstances change
  • Support Brokers with claims or complaints
  • Send you updates, offers or relevant products (you can opt out at any time)
  • Monitor phone calls for training, audits or claim/complaint handling (you'll be notified if calls are recorded)

Analytics & audience insights

To help us better understand how people interact with our website and advertising, we may use analytics and measurement tools that allow us to match certain non-sensitive information (such as email addresses or phone numbers you provide) to anonymised audience insights.

This data is shared in a hashed and privacy-protected format and is used solely for purposes such as:

  • Improving the accuracy of our campaign reporting
  • Measuring the effectiveness of our website
  • Reaching people with relevant updates and offers

This process does not involve the sharing of any sensitive data, and all data handling is in line with applicable privacy laws and our data protection standards.

Keeping your data secure

Marketing preferences

We'll only send you marketing messages if we have your clear and informed consent. No pre-ticked boxes, no assumptions.

You can opt in or out anytime, and we'll always keep a record of your consent, including how and when it was given.

Customers

We may ask if you'd like to stay in touch, even if you've chosen another provider.

Potential customers

If you've shown interest but didn't proceed, we may ask if we can keep in touch in case our products suit you later.

Non-customers

We won't contact you unless you've given explicit consent.

If you want to complain

If you're unhappy with how we've used your data, please contact us. If you're still not satisfied, you can raise your concern with the ICO on 0303 123 1113 or visit www.ico.org.uk.

We'll usually need to share your identity to investigate a complaint, but we'll respect requests for anonymity wherever possible.

We keep complaint records for two years, or six if related to a regulated policy.

We regularly review this Privacy Notice. If we make changes or start using your data in a new way, we'll update this page and let you know where appropriate.
